Free Diving

This is pretty insane.

I finished my last final today but I have an enormous project report due in Seismic Design in about 48 hours plus a take-home portion of my Stability final due Friday afternoon. Almost home...

Earthquakes

So, I missed the big Baja earthquake on Easter Sunday, but I just felt a pair of them (5.3 4.9, 4.8) while working on an Earthquake Engineering term paper on the 8th floor of the library.

So cool.

Please hurry, Summer.

I remember this time about two months ago, during the first week of this quarter, when I thought that this Spring would be a breeze:

I had driven to campus (rather than bus it) early on a Wednesday morning, parking at Scripps and then walking the rest of the way to campus. My surf board was safely tucked away in the car so that later that morning I could go straight to the beach after class. It was such a good feeling, and I remember thinking and hoping that it could be a weekly habit. It was later that week that I went to Joshua Tree (photos here since I forgot to throw them up here) and had a great time. Surely my three project-based classes this quarter would allow me lots of free time to finally get out and see so many of the places I'd been yearning to explore.

Not so. I've spent more twelve- to eighteen-hour days on campus in the last month than I'd like to remember. I've slept overnight in the graduate student "lounge." I've fallen out of touch with myself and with others, and at what benefit?

Three weeks still remain in the quarter, but I am going to try and do a better job of managing things if I can help it. Please hurry, Summer.

Cedar Creek Falls

Went hiking yesterday out in Cleveland National Forest near Julian, CA with Mike, Shannon, Burcu, Dean, Gil, Tairi, Danielle, & Joe (plus Dante & Ebee). It was about a 6-mile round-trip hike to Cedar Creek Falls and back - check out the photos here.

So What If It's Been A Month...

... since my last post.

I'M COMING HOME TODAY!

I have a quick breakfast with the other TAs from this quarter and our professor, then it's off to the airport!

I can't wait to get home to Raleigh.
